These evening we had the opportunity to enjoy the site science lightning plenary. This means that each of 26 sites had to present itself in 2 minutes using 2 slides. A great exercise of synthesis that is possible only if you have the wisdom and the expertise of some decades monitoring the impacts of global change. We have been there, trying to learn, acting as Martians that have just landed in an unknown planet \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-align: justify; \">One of the first lessons that we have learnt is the importance of a conceptual model that should be the inspiring framework of any LTER site. Most of the presentations have showed the scientific questions that drive each site and also the overarching ideas that help to implement both the monitoring protocols and the data analysis.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; \">Most of the conceptual framework outlined in the sessions have these ingredients:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify; \">Scientific questions. Monitoring must be &quot;science driven&quot;.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify; \">Standardized&nbsp; monitoring protocols<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify; \">Analytical tools able to both describe cause-effect relationships and simulate ecosystem function.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify; \">Methods to describe the importance of ecosystem services supplied by LTER site.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; \">We have taken some low quality pictures of the above mentioned presentations. You can browse them below.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; \">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; \">Ahora en espa&ntilde;ol \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; \">@ajpelu, @rpperezperez y @fjbonet estamos en el All Science Meeting organizado por la red LTER de Estados Unidos en Estes Park (Colorado). Esta tarde hemos podido disfrutar de unas presentaciones breves en la sala plenaria. Cada uno de los 26 sitios de la red se ha presentado a s&iacute; mismo usando solo 2 diapositivas en 2 minutos. Ha sido un gran ejercicio de s&iacute;ntesis que solo es posible si tienes la sabidur&iacute;a y la experiencia de unas cuantas d&eacute;cadas haciendo seguimiento de los efectos del cambio global. Hemos estado all&iacute;, tratando de aprender, como si fu&eacute;ramos unos marcianos reci&eacute;n aterrizados en un planeta extra&ntilde;o \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; \">Una de las primeras lecciones que hemos aprendido es que es muy importante contar con un modelo conceptual que fundamente las actividades de cada sitio LTER. La mayor&iacute;a de las presentaciones han mostrado las preguntas cient&iacute;ficas clave de cada sitio que permiten implementar tanto los protocolos de seguimiento como el an&aacute;lisis de datos.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; \">La mayor&iacute;a de dichos modelos conceptuales ten&iacute;an estos ingredientes:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify; \">Preguntas cient&iacute;ficas relevantes.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify; \">Protocolos de seguimiento estandarizados.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify; \">Herramientas anal&iacute;ticas capaces tanto de describir las relaciones causa efecto como de simular las funciones ecosist&eacute;micas.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify; \">Metodolog&iacute;as para describir la importancia de los servicios ecosist&eacute;micos suministrados por los sitios LTER.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Hemos tomado algunas fotos (en muy baja calidad&#8230;) de dichas presentaciones.
